The Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI) and the Turkey Institute are delighted to invite you to an exclusive roundtable discussion on the coup attempt and its aftermath in Turkey.

The roundtable discussion will commence with refreshments at 1400. After initial remarks by the speakers, an open and interactive discussion will follow under Chatham House rules. The discussion will be chaired by Professor Tahir Abbas, Senior Research Fellow at RUSI.

Speakers Biography

Bill Park

Visiting Research Fellow in the Defense Studies Department, King's College

Bill Park is a Visiting Research Fellow in the Defence Studies Department. He has extensively written on a range of Turkish foreign policy issues, its domestic Kurdish issue, the Fethullah Gulen movement, and the Ergenekon affair.

Dr Ismail Sezgin

Executive Director, the Centre for Hizmet Studies

Ismail Mesut Sezgin holds a Doctorate from the Institute for Spirituality, Religion and Public Life at Leeds Beckett University. His research interests include ethics, Islam, Political Islam, Religious Extremism, Sufism and Turkish Politics. Sezgin is the Executive Director of the Centre for Hizmet Studies.

Prof. Tahir Abbas

Senior Research Fellow at RUSI

Tahir Abbas is a Senior Research Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute in London. He specialises in ethnic relations, radicalisation and violent extremism. In December 2016, he published a book on ethnicity, Islam and politics in Turkey. He is currently researching and writing two books.
