Turkey will hold a presidential election on the 10th August when incumbent Abdullah Gül’s seven-year term comes to an end. For the first time in Turkey’s political history, voters themselves in lieu of the parliament will elect the head of state. It is highly probable that the new status in Turkey’s political landscape would be influential on the reallocation of power within the state apparatus including presidency, Prime Minister’s Office and the parliament. In this event speakers will be evaluating the political, economic and social dynamics of the presidential elections as well as its probable impact on Turkey-UK and EU relations.
