Professor Ihsan Yilmaz has presented (via Skype) a co-authored paper at a roundtable discussion organised by The Turkey Institute (London) on “Attempts to legitimise authoritarianism through democratic mechanisms: The cases of Angola and Turkey”. His paper was on Turkey’s securitisation of the Kurdish identity at home and among Turkey’s diasporas.

Kerim Balci

Kerim Balci is a former columnist with Zaman Daily, a newspaper closed down by the Turkish government. He regularly contributes to Turkey Institute.

Prof Rui S Verde

Academic Visitor, African Studies Centre, University of Oxford

Rui S Verde has a PhD in Law from the University of Newcastle. He is the Chief-Legal Adviser of Maka Angola and the founder of the Angola Research Network. He is currently an academic visitor at African Studies Centre, University of Oxford, developing research work at Oxford concerning the build-up of democracy, fundamental rights and the fight against corruption in Angola and DRC.

Prof. Ihsan Yilmaz

Professor Ihsan Yilmaz is Research Chair of Islamic Studies and Intercultural Dialogue at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. He regularly contributes to Turkey Institute.
